The day began overcast, but I still set off for a ride to Gunning. The dirt started once I turned onto Marked Tree Rd at Gundaroo, where the road runs along the escarpment overlooking the Federal Highway and Lake George. The views up there are fantastic, especially at the hang-gliding launch point. Just before the descent into Collector, I took a left onto Collector Rd, which stayed as dirt until a few kilometres before reaching Gunning. On the way, I stopped to snap some photos of an old, dilapidated house.
In Gunning, I fuelled up and grabbed a quick bite before heading out along the main road. I turned onto Gundaroo Rd and crossed over the Hume Highway, then shortly afterwards, I took Lade Vale Rd for a few kilometres before turning onto Berrebangalo Rd, where the dirt began again. My original plan was to cut across to Elms Rd via a connecting track, but I encountered a locked gate marking a Wildlife Sanctuary, so I had to adjust the route. I continued along Berrebangalo Rd until reaching Yass River Rd, where I took a right and followed it to Greenwood Rd, crossing the Yass River. Shortly after, I turned onto Boutchers Ln. Amusingly, at one end, it's named Boutchers Ln, but it changes to Boutchers Dr at the other end, somewhere around a property’s driveway. From there, I took Nanima Rd, then Murrumbateman Rd, and finally made my way back home via Sutton Rd and Mulligans Flat Rd. Ride Map
